Structure takes away pressure

Despite flagging a little yesterday, I do just have to say that overall I’ve really enjoyed this challenging month. It’s taught me some lessons, given me some insights into the way I work, and helped me see what I need to do in order to be successful in my endeavours.

The biggest thing I’ve realised is that having a structure or theme to each week has eased the pressure on me during this month. There has still been enough pressure, in that I have had to post every day, but knowing in advance what shape and structure that day’s post will take has been a blessing.

It’s helped me to plan ahead, and instead my usual practice of just thinking of something, writing it and putting it out there at random intervals, and as soon as it’s in my head, posts are being assigned to days in advance, because I know where they ‘fit’.

Key Lessons and Realisations.

  • I really enjoy this.
  • The more I write, the more I want to write, and the more ideas I come up with.
  • The more I write, the more I find myself picking up on what’s going on around me, and using the everyday experiences of life as inspiration for, or as part of what I’m going to say.
  • That when it comes to the book, I’m going to need an outline. Knowing what scenes need to be written before hand is going to make this whole project a lot better.
  • Seeing the number of posts increasing each day, and watching this blog build up a good history, is making me feel more confident in myself. If I’m feeling uninspired, and lacking in confidence I’ve got posts to look back on and remind myself how much I can do when I really put my mind to it.
  • A ‘like’ on a post or a new follower notification, can really brighten a day, and help to inspire me to write more.

The upshot of this challenge for the month, well I’m going to blog as often as possible.  I don’t think I’ve the stamina, to post daily, but I’m going to do my best to do as much as I can.  I really think if I can keep up the momentum that I’ve gained, then the rest will be easier than it was before.  Or at least I hope so.

Flagging

No, not waving flags, just flagging in general.  If I’m honest I think it’s more to do with the after effects of epic weekend catching up with me, there is only so much excitement, sleep deprivation, laughter, socialising, and panic attack avoidance (I don’t do crowds, but I’m determined to beat this) that any one person can pack into two days without physical repercussions.  I think I broke my limit.  I also think I’m in ‘the slump’  it’s been such a big weekend for me with ambitions I never dreamed of being fulfilled, actually fulfilled, that the ‘come down’ has caught me quite hard, and completely off guard too.

So yes I’m flagging right at the end of my challenge, so you’ll have to forgive me this little self indulgent groan I think.  After today I have one more post to write, which is fortunately almost written anyway, as I’ve been summarising my learning experiences from the last four weeks of daily blogging. Once that is done then I still  have to design the four new products I promised you for my Zazzle store by Wednesday.  I have two in mind, but two yet to dream up, but they’ll be there. I’ve come to far to give up now, so with that in mind, let’s end on a positive note!

Another quickie

I’m still writing up the post about my weekend which has been repeatedly described by myself as truly epic.

So since time is getting on, and I need to ensure I post something today, please see a fantastic piece of win I purchased while at London Super Comic Con yesterday.

Handmade, copper-fronted, original and fantastically refillable, my Incredible Hulk notebook made by Phoenix Copper Art, who will custom make one of these for you with any design you like. (and who will soon be receiving my order for a Ghost Rider version)

A post on the run

Because I left the house at 4:45 this morning and won’t be back until 2:30 tomorrow morning.

The main reason? A last minute trip to London to go here….

Sometimes only I can say it better…

There’s a post I’ve been trying to write a post for a while. I’ve started and stopped, typed and deleted it a hundred times over already, then the other day when I was looking for inspiration for by searching through the posts I had written for an old long dead blog, I found this post… Which sums up everything I’ve been trying to write in that other post, in a quick neat little package.

As I said, sometimes the only person who can say it better than me, really is me…

“I’m a writer,” Wade said. “I’m supposed to understand what makes people tick. I don’t understand one damn thing about anybody.”
~The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler

You know what, neither do I.

Every day I read opinions, tweets and blogs, listen to TV, radio, conversations, debates, rants and confessions. I quietly and carefully take it all in, and then pretty much promptly forget it all. I find life is easier to deal with, without the need for me to get all up in arms because someone somewhere said or did something they probably shouldn’t have… because if I’m honest most of it all goes over my head anyway

Instead, I prefer to chat to the few people I work closely with, and faff arse around on facebook and twitter alot. I’ve come accross more characters and people with intersting lives and stories in that way than I ever would have done in the pages of some cruddy newspaper or glossy magazine.

I’ve discovered life is out there and that being a writer doesn’t mean I have to understand it, or understand people, because I when I write I can make them whatever I like anyway… :)

Birds!

Prinknash Abbey Bird & Deer Park is an attraction local to home. I love wandering round with my camera at this time of year, as many of the birds colours are at their brightest right now.

For today’s post I thought I’d share my favourite pictures from the day.

Simple things make me smile

Like Library Cat

Who every day finds his/her* way in to the hallway of the library, and sleeps on this heater, where he/she gets fuss from the children as they come and go, in his/her warm and apparently inviting, favourite spot.

Library cat is lovely.

(*I don’t know what sex library cat is)

Childishness

It’s been a very trying day, so for today’s poetry post I give you simply this.

I Resign

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult.
I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8-year-old again.
I want to go to McDonald’s and think that it’s a four star restaurant.
I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make ripples with rocks.
I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them.
I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer day.
I want to return to a time when life was simple.

When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn’t bother you, because you didn’t know what you didn’t know and you didn’t care.
All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.

I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good.
I want to believe that anything is possible.
I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.
I want to live simple again.
I don’t want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.
I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.

So…here’s my checkbook and my car keys, my credit cards and all my responsibility.

I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you’ll have to catch me first, ’cause,

“Tag! You’re it.”

Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can – a musical interlude

For those of you expecting a link to the spiderman theme tune, sorry, this isn’t it. It is however a song about a spiderman. It’s one of my all time favourite songs by Icelandic singer Hafdis Huld. A bit of a poetry cheat today, but I’m sure you won’t mind and just enjoy the entertainment. :)

He’d rather swing from a cable, than sit by the table and eat cake
He’s half way up, before you’re even awake
He’s got style, and still they dial the police
Just wait, he’ll come down in one piece

He’s said before there’s a risk I know
Feeling almost that it’s part of the show

They call him kongulo you’ll never see him in an elevator
It moves too slow
See you later, he’ll see you later
Let’s hope the winds don’t blow
Watch out here comes the kongulo

Afraid of heights when it comes to flights of stairs
But when he starts to move nobody cares
No safety line he takes his time out there
Stops for coffee and the rest of us just stare

He’s said before there’s a risk I know
Feeling almost that it’s part of the show

They call him kongulo you’ll never see him in an elevator
It moves too slow
See you later, he’ll see you later
Please don’t make it snow
Watch out here comes the kongulo

It made us all even keener
When he hitched a ride with a window cleaner
Human kongulo’s are rare
Now he’s on TV talking about his hair

They call him kongulo you’ll never see him in an elevator
It moves too slow
See you later, he’ll see you later
Lets hope the winds don’t blow
Watch out here comes the kongulo

Watch out here comes the kongulo

Watch out here comes the kongulo
